Spinifex was born on New Year’s Eve 1994. It was founded by Angela Hinchley and Barbara Landsberg as a media, investor and government relations company. Angela and Barbara spent their first year of business working for Australian mining companies Delta Gold, North Ltd and New Zealand Oil and Gas – and getting pregnant. Always a good idea for a new business.

With babies on the way and two women at the helm, Spinifex went from strength to strength, branching out from mining to include travel, food and hospitality.

An overseas move, in the time of fax and phone rather than Skype and social media, led to Barbara leaving the business. She made up for it by coming back as a client 10 years later, with her award-winning garden design business, Landsberg Garden Design.

Angela is a social creature so without Barbara to play with on a daily basis she hired herself two friends to work on clients such as Singapore Tourism Board, Douwe Egberts, George Westons Foods, d’Albora Marinas and catering company Gardner Merchant.

In 1998, whilst working on an account for Dow AgroSciences, Angela met Peter Huxley. In 1999, Spinifex moved to its North Sydney headquarters and merged with Peter’s ComStrategies, an advertising agency. Spinifex as it is today was created – a marketing communications agency that focuses on solving business problems.
