Spinifex Accelerated Learning System™

Most training is built around content coverage. SALS is built around performance.

The Spinifex Accelerated Learning System™, or SALS, is Spinifex’s proprietary learning system for turning complex information into applied workplace capability.

It helps organisations move people from knowing to doing by focusing learning design on the tasks, decisions, behaviours and concepts that most affect real performance. That means we do not treat all content equally.

We identify what people need to do, where they are likely to struggle, what matters most, and what kind of learning treatment is needed to build competence, not just completion.

SALS can support e-learning, onboarding, compliance training, technical and procedural learning, systems training, customer-facing capability, leadership development, Defence learning and high-consequence training environments.

Training only matters if people can use it.

The Spinifex Accelerated Learning System™ is Spinifex Communications’ proprietary performance-led learning system. It helps organisations build applied workplace capability by turning complex information into structured learning that people can understand, retain and apply in real work.

Why you need it

Completion is not competence.  A lot of training looks complete on paper.  The module is finished. The attendance is recorded. The assessment is passed. The box is ticked.

But the actual issue is whether people can actually perform when the work requires it.

Can they recall what matters? Can they recognise the situation?
Can they make the right judgement?
Can they follow the process correctly?
Can they apply the learning without needing someone else to translate it for them?

That is where many training programs fall down.

SALS exists because people do not become capable by being exposed to information once. They become capable when learning is structured around performance, practice, progression, evidence and the real conditions of the work.

A five-part system for building applied capability

SALS starts with the work, not the content.

It asks what people need to do, what good performance looks like, where capability breaks down and which learning points deserve the most design effort.

Then it applies the right treatment.

That might include visual explanation, structured progression, worked examples, realistic scenarios, deliberate practice, remediation, stronger assessment or practical performance evidence.

1. Performance Readiness Map

Defines the real-world tasks, standards, behaviours and capability gaps the learning design needs to address.

This keeps the learning grounded in performance, not just information.

2. Spinifex Learning Priority Engine™

Prioritises learning effort by looking at difficulty, performance importance and learner vulnerability.

Not every piece of content needs the same treatment. SALS identifies what needs deeper design effort and what can be simplified, reduced or removed.

3. Decision Readiness Builder

Creates realistic practice for tasks, decisions and behaviours that need to be applied in the workplace.

This helps learners move from understanding the idea to using it in context.

4. Learning Acceleration Builder

Turns difficult concepts, systems and processes into clearer, faster understanding through visual explanation, worked examples and structured progression.

This reduces overload and helps learners grasp what matters.

5. Competency Evidence Map

Aligns outcomes, learning design and assessment so competence can be measured, evidenced and improved.

The goal is not just to know whether someone completed the learning. It is to know whether they can apply it.

Why Spinifex?

Because we know how to make complex information usable.

Spinifex works where information is complex, important or hard to translate into action.

That includes environments where people need to understand procedures, make decisions, follow standards, adopt new systems, improve role readiness or perform consistently under pressure.

SALS brings together learning science, communication strategy, visual explanation, performance design and assessment thinking into one repeatable system.

It helps avoid the common trap of building training that looks comprehensive but does not change performance.

The strength of SALS is not that it makes learning more decorative.  It makes learning more deliberate.  It shows what matters most, where learners will struggle, and how the training needs to respond so people can build confidence, competence and consistency in the work itself.  Built for different learning environments

SALS can support:

When learning needs to align with operational context, compliance, evidence and speed to capability.

Business, government and industry training

When teams need to understand, retain and apply complex information across roles, sites or cohorts.

E-learning and digital learning

When online learning needs to do more than deliver information.

Compliance and procedural training

When people need to understand what matters, why it matters and how to act correctly.

Systems and process training

When adoption depends on people understanding workflows, decisions and errors that matter most.

Onboarding and role readiness

When new starters need to become capable faster without being overloaded.

What is the Spinifex Accelerated Learning System™?

The Spinifex Accelerated Learning System™, or SALS, is Spinifex Communications’ proprietary performance-led learning system. It helps organisations turn complex information into practical learning that people can understand, retain and apply in real work.

What does SALS stand for?

SALS stands for the Spinifex Accelerated Learning System™. It is Spinifex’s system for building applied workplace capability, not just delivering training content.

How is SALS different from traditional training design?

Traditional training often starts with content coverage. SALS starts with performance. It identifies what people need to do, where they are likely to struggle, and which learning points need stronger design treatment, practice, explanation or assessment.

What kinds of training can SALS support?

SALS can support onboarding, e-learning, compliance training, technical and procedural training, systems training, leadership development, customer service training, Defence learning and broader workforce capability programs.

How does SALS help people learn faster?

SALS reduces wasted learning effort by prioritising what matters most. It uses structured progression, visual explanation, worked examples, realistic practice and targeted assessment to help people understand faster and apply learning more confidently.

Does SALS work for e-learning?

Yes. SALS can be used to design e-learning that does more than present information. It helps structure digital learning around understanding, practice, application and evidence of capability.

Can SALS support Defence learning?

Yes. For Defence learning, Spinifex can align with the Systems Approach to Defence Learning, or SADL, and apply the Spinifex Accelerated Learning System™, or SALS, to turn complex Defence learning requirements into practical, scenario-based training.

This helps support operational context, required standards, assessment evidence and speed to capability.

Is SALS only for high-risk or technical environments?

No. SALS is valuable anywhere learning needs to become performance. That includes sales, software adoption, onboarding, compliance, customer service, leadership, critical thinking, technical learning and complex workplace processes.

What problem does SALS solve?

SALS solves the gap between training completion and workplace capability. It helps organisations move beyond asking whether people have completed the training and towards asking whether they can perform to standard when the work requires it.
